
The Pleasant Grove Hawks boys varsity basketball team soared to a 57-34 win over the North Lamar Panthers Friday.
The game was played at Stone Middle School across the street from the High School in Paris. North Lamar’s high school gym is undergoing a renovation.
Pleasant Grove was led by sophomore Jaylen Boardley who scored 21 points. Martin Haley scored 8, Kennon Kelley and Torian Phillips each poured in 7 and Ben Bricker scored six. Cohen Cade and Kason Wright each scored 3 points.
Boardley and Bricker and the rest of the Hawks dominated the boards. Boardley was crowned 94.1 FM ESPN Texarkana-Exceed Health Clinic player of the game. However, an argument could be made for Bricker and Hailey as well.

North Lamar was led by Dawson McDowell who scored 13 points.
Hawks head coach was happy with the win
“We talked about playing more pressure defense and I thought we did a great job of doing that tonight,” Craig Collvins, Pleasant Grove head basketball coach said. “When you play defense like that it energizes your offense. We’re still not perfect by any means but it was a real good win for us tonight.”
Boardley , the Player of the game said physicality and hustle were the keys to victory
“We were being more physical and we were hustling more and we were crashing down and getting boards,” Jaylen Boardley said.
Pleasant Grove improved to 1-1 in district with the win. North Lamar dropped to 1-1 in district with the loss.
pleasant Grove’s next game is Tuesday at home vs the Gilmer Buckeyes. The game will be broadcast live on 94.1 FM ESPN-Texarkana. Pregame will begin around 6:30 p.m. and tip-off around 7 p.m. or 7:15 p.m.
