Stanford wallops Texas A&M

FRISCO, Texas — The Texas A&M Aggies opened up the Frisco College Baseball Classic with an 11-6 loss to the Washington State Cougars on Friday evening at Riders Field.

The Cougars jumped out to an early lead with three runs in the second and then tacked on eight more runs in fourth. Washington State (7-3) scored their first five runs without the ball leaving the infield. Texas A&M (6-3) chipped away with runs in four different innings, but were unable to put a crooked number on the board until the final frame. The Maroon & White scored three runs in the ninth inning and had the tying run on deck when the game ended.

Jack Moss, Austin Bost and Taylor Smith each logged multiple hits for the Aggies. Moss batted 2-for-3 with one run and one stolen base. Bost hit 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Smith batted 2-for-2 with one run and one RBI

B2 | The Cougars scored three runs without the ball leaving the infield. Justin Van De Brake start the frame with an infield single. Collin Montez was hit by a pitch and with one out Kodie Kolden drew a four-pitch walk to load the bases. With two outs, Hylan Hall and Kyle Russell with infield singles on the left side and Russell scored on a passed ball. WSU 3, A&M 0

B4 | Kolden reached on an infield single and was replaced at first by Will Crsswell who could not get a sacrifice bunt down. Hall doubled down the leftfield line to put two in scoring position and Russell knocked them both in with a single through the right side. Reliever Xavier Lovett spelled Nathan Dettmer on the mound for the Aggies, but was unable to retire any of the four batters he faced, yielding a single by Bryce Mathews, walk by Jacob McKeon, hit-by pitch to Van De Brake and a walk to Monte as the lead ballooned to 7-0. T5 | Austin Bost reached on a leadoff single to leftfield, moved to second on a grounder to second base and scored on a two-out single to rightfield by Kalae Harrison. WSU 11, A&M 1

T6 | Jack Moss stroked a leadoff single to centerfield. With one out, Minnich drew a four-pitch walk. Bost knocked in Moss with a single to centerfield. WSU 11, A&M 2

T8 | Taylor Smith slapped a leadoff single to centerfield. With one out, he advanced to second on a wild pitch and third on a groundout by Brett Minnich. Smith came home to score on another wild pitch. WSU 11, A&M 3

T8 | With one out, Kole Kaler and Logan Britt walked on a combined nine pitches. With two outs, Jordan Thompson drew a four-pitch walk to fill the bags with Ags. Smith bounced a single up the middle to score Kaler, Britt touched home on a wild pitch and Ryan Targac knocked in Thompson with a single through the right side. Minnich was issued a base on balls to refill the bases, but a strikeout ended the game. WSU 11, A&M 6
