MOUNT PLEASANT, Texas — The Pleasant Grove Hawks made quick work of the Mount Vernon Tigers 9-0 in four innings Thursday afternoon.

Nathan Hutcheson went five innings on the mound, allowing two hits, two walks, and striking out seven batters.

Coach Riley Fincher told Hutcheson to, “throw a strike and let them hit no ground ball” to close out the game.

“I felt like everything was doing good today,” said Hutcheson. “I felt like all of my pitches were moving. It was really easy to pitch with confidence because we got three runs in the first innings, and then the offense kept rolling all throughout the game.”

The Hawks also shelled Mount Vernon pitchers with 11 hits.

Pleasant Grove centerfielder Brock Bearden was 2-3 at the plate with a double. Shortstop Brenton Clark went 2-3 with two double and two RBI. First baseman Travler Couch was 2-3 at the plate with a double and three RBI.

Third baseman JM Long was 2-2 with a double and an RBI. Cade Martin was 2-2 with two RBI. Kaden McFadden was 1-2 with a double.
