SULPHUR SPRINGS, Texas — A big second inning allowed the Texas High Tigers to take command of their tilt with the Sulphur Springs Tigers and outlast the home side 9-6 Friday evening.

Nathan Steele was the most productive Tiger at the plate as he went went 3-4 with two doubles and a single. Steele also had two RBI and scored three runs.

Luke Smith went 2-4 at the plate with two singles. Smith also hit an RBI.

Jacob Yowell was 1-3 at the plate with a single, a walk, an RBI, and a run scored.


Smith also went 3.0 innings on the mound with four hits, two walks, three runs, and five strikeouts. Sawyer Pritchard went 2.0 innings and gave up two hits, two walks, and struck out four en route to earning the save. Robert Cheney was the winning pitcher as he went 2.0 innings with three hits, four walks, three runs, and a strikeout.

“We played well enough to win, scoring eight runs in one inning,” coach Johnny McClure said. “We still have some things to shore up in order to be a real good team. After two district ball games it always good to be sitting in first place.”
