LONGVIEW, Texas — The Pine Tree Pirates had a six-run fourth inning to give them dominance over the Texas High Tigers 9-3 on Friday evening.

The Tigers gave up five hits and committed two errors in the field.

Nathan Steele led Texas High going 3-4 with two singles and a triple. Steele also had an RBI and scored a run.

Luke Smith was 1-4 at the plate with a single and an RBI.

Jordan Crouch was 1-1 with a single and run scored.

Jacob Yowell scored a run and was walked twice.

Nate Mennie was 1-4 with a single.

Dalton Raley was 1-3 with a single.

“We came out real flat, not focused like we have been all year,” coach Johnny McClure said. “Sometimes it’s not a bad thing to get kicked in the teeth. We’ll regroup and come out hitting on all cylinders next week. Great thing is, we still control our on destiny.”

Robert Cheney went 3.2 innings for the Tigers, generating four strikeouts while giving up four hits, five walks, seven runs (five earned), and taking the loss.

Allen Cartwright went 1.1 innings with a walk and a strikeout. Lee Smith went 1.0 inning on the mound with a hit, two walks, and two runs, both earned, given up.

The Tigers fall to 12-6 overall with a 5-2 record in district play.
