AUSTIN, Texas — No. 10 Baseball was unable to dig out of an early deficit and lost 14-2 to Air Force on Tuesday at UFCU Disch-Falk Field. The Longhorns (26-13) and Falcons will square off again on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
Air Force scored two runs in the first inning and tacked on six more in the second to jump out to a big 8-0 lead. Justin Eckhardt started and took the loss to drop to 1-1 on the season.
Ivan Melendez drove in the Longhorns first run of the game with his 17th home run of the season, a solo shot in the third inning. The Longhorns scored an unearned run in the fourth after Douglas Hodo III reached on an error and came around to score on an RBI groundout by Mitchell Daly.
Melendez finished 2-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored, while Daly was 1-for-3 with one RBI.
The Falcons tacked on another run in the sixth and then put the game out of reach with five more runs in the eighth.
Zane Morehouse closed out the game on the mound for Texas, pitching a scoreless top of the ninth.
