LONGVIEW, Texas — Brandon Obenoskey made a dramatic contribution to James Bowie’s postseason hopes.
Obenoskey went the distance in beating Beckville in the decisive third game of their best-of-three series, 3-1, sending the Pirates into the Region 3-2A semifinals. He walked two and struck out four, while contributing two hits at the plate.
Zane DeBerry led the Pirates at the plate with three hits. Ethan Morden had two hits, while Hunter Reeves drove in a run.
“This was a huge pitching performance by our senior Defensive MVP (Brandon Obenoskey),” said Pirate mentor Grayson Requarth. “We had a lot of motivation because we were being doubted and told we didn’t have enough pitching to finish the series. I believe we earned our respect. The kids played hard, like they have been the whole playoff run. It’s a ‘why not us?’ thing for us at this point. The kids believe.”
James Bowie (19-11) has now eliminated Como-Pickton, Frankston and Beckville. The Pirates will play Garrison or Douglass next week.
