ROUND ROCK EXPRESS – L, 4-3 VS. SUGAR LAND
Triple-A, Pacific Coast League (33-30, 3rd, 6.0 GB)
Round Rock lost for the 7th time in 8 games last night, surrendering a late lead in a 4-3 loss to Sugar Land. The Express led by one run heading to the 8th before runs allowed by RHP Demarcus Evans (BS, 1.0 IP, 1 R-ER) and rehabbing RHP Jonathan Hernández (L, 1.0 IP, 1 H, 1 R-ER, 2 BB, 1 SO). Starter LHP Cole Ragans was impressive in his Triple-A debut after being promoted (7.0 IP, 6 H, 2 R-ER, 0 BB, 8 SO). He is now 5-3, 2.78 (18 ER/58.1 IP) w/ 11.3 SO/9 over 11 starts in 2022. 3B Josh Smith (1-for-3) played the field for the first time in his 2nd rehab game. RF Josh Sale (2-for-4, HR, RBI) is batting .323 (10-31) with 3 HR and 11 RBI in 8 G in the minors this year, his first affiliated action since 2014.
FRISCO ROUGHRIDERS – W, 6-4 VS. MIDLAND
Double-A, Texas League (30-30, 2nd, 3.0 GB)
Frisco overcame an early 4-run deficit to earn a 6-4 win over Midland and return to the .500 mark at 30-30. SS Jonathan Ornelas delivered once again for the ‘Riders, extending his hit streak to 5 games by notching a 2-run single in the 6th inning to give the club a 6-4 lead. 3B Jax Biggers recorded a game-high 3 hits. 1B Blaine Crim hit a solo HR in the 4th inning, as his 12 long balls lead all Texas farmhands in 2022. CF J.P. Martinez reached base 4 times on a single and 3 walks. RHP Fernery Ozuna locked down his 5th save. In last 7 G: 8.2 IP, 7 H, 1 R-0 ER, 2 BB, 8 SO.
HICKORY CRAWDADS – L, 6-3 VS. GREENVILLE
High-A, South Atlantic League (35-25, 2nd, 0.5 GB)
Hickory, the Texas Rangers’ High-A affiliate, was downed by an early deficit in Thursday’s 6-3 defeat to Greenville. Starter LHP Robby Ahlstrom, who was making his 1st start at High-A after being promoted, took the loss (3.0 IP, 5 R-3 ER). 2B Thomas Saggese went 3-for-4, as he is batting .382 (21-55) over his last 13 G. SS Luisangel Acuna had 2 RBI. The ‘Dads loaded the bases and had the winning run at the plate in the 9th inning, but LF Trevor Hauver struck out to end the game. In relief, RHP Marc Church struck out 6 of the 12 batters he faced over 3.0 shutout frames. He has struck out 53 batters and walked just 5 in 30.2 IP this year.
DOWN EAST WOOD DUCKS – W, 5-2 AT LYNCHBURG
Low-A, Carolina League (29-31, 5th, 2.0 GB)
Down East scored 3 runs in the 8th inning to run away with a 5-2 victory over Lynchburg on Thursday night. CF Daniel Mateo came in clutch with a 2-run homer in the 8th inning to provide the final margin. Mateo has multiple hits in each of his last 3 G w/ PA, going 10-for-25 (.400) over his last 7 G. RHP Ryan Garcia made his 2nd start of the season (2.2 IP, 1 R-ER) after a short IL stint following his season debut earlier this month.
ACL RANGERS – L, 7-1 AT ACL PADRES
Arizona Complex League West (6-2, 1st, 1.0 GA)
The ACL Rangers were limited to just 4 singles in a 7-1 loss to the ACL Padres on Thursday night. Club scored only run on an RBI single by SS Frandy Almonte in the 3rd inning. Almonte was on base a team-high 3 times in the game. 3B Alisson Del Orbe had the club’s only multi-hit game (2-for-3). Starter RHP DJ McCarty took the loss (4.0 IP, 3 R-ER).
