Police: 87-year-old man shot self while detectives were serving felony search warrant

TEXARKANA ⁠— The Texarkana Texas Police Department (TTPD) responded to an incident in the 3700 block of Galleria Oaks Drive Thursday afternoon.

According to police, as detectives were serving a search warrant in reference to a felony investigation, an 87-year-old man who allegedly lives in the home walked out the backdoor and shot himself. Police say he died at the scene.

Detectives and crime scene technicians are still at the scene as of 6:11 p.m. Thursday evening.

According to a witness, there were over a dozen TTPD officers present along with other law enforcement officers armed with what appeared to be automatic weapons.

The TTPD’s crime scene unit was on the scene. A witness said that a stretcher was brought inside the house, which has been marked off with yellow tape.
