TEXAS RANGERS MINOR LEAGUE REPORT FRIDAY, AUGUST 5, 2022

ORGANIZATIONAL RECORD: 282-243 (.537), 6th-best in MLB

8/4 Transactions: Sandro Fabian transferred from Frisco to Round Rock.

ROUND ROCK EXPRESS – L, 2-1 AT SUGAR LAND

Triple-A, Pacific Coast League (55-47, 3rd, 6.0 GB)

Round Rock lost a one-run game to Sugar Land last night. Club was shut out until 1B Nick Tanielu notched an RBI single in the 9th. The Express had the potential tying and winning run on base when LF Sandro Fabian grounded out to end the game. Round Rock managed 5 hits, all singles by batters 6th or lower in the order. RHP Kohei Arihara took the loss despite logging his 2nd straight quality start (6.0 IP, 2 R-ER), with the only damage against him being a 2-R HR in the 1st inning. LHP James Jones (1.0 IP, 0 R) made his 2022 Triple-A debut and RHP Chase Lee (1.0 IP, 0 R) posted his 5th straight scoreless outing.

 

FRISCO ROUGHRIDERS – W, 4-3 VS AMARILLO

Double-A, Texas League (54-45, 1st, 1.0 GA)

Frisco extended its win streak to 5 straight games with a 4-3 win over Amarillo on Thursday night. The first-place ‘Riders were buoyed by a 3-run home run from 3B Justin Foscue, who was making his first professional appearance at the hot corner. Foscue also doubled twice to finish with 3 extra-base hits and has enjoyed a strong few weeks, batting .320 (16-50) with 3 HR and 11 RBI over his last 12 G. DH Brad Miller continued his rehab assignment, reaching base on a double and walk. RHP Tim Brennan turned in a quality start (6.0 IP, 2 R-1 ER), and RHP Fernery Ozuna locked down his 9th save despite allowing Amarillo to nearly tie the game in the 9th.

 

HICKORY CRAWDADS – W, 5-3 VS ASHEVILLE

High-A, South Atlantic League (53-46, 3rd, 9.0 GB)
The Crawdads scored 4 runs in the 6th inning en route to a 5-3 win over Asheville on Thursday. 2B Thomas Saggese went 2-for-4 with a solo HR out of the 3-hole, and has a career-high 12 HR and 51 RBI this season. Over his last 15 G since 7/14, Saggese is slashing .429/.448/.778/1.226 (27-63) with 5 HR and 15 RBI. RHP Mason Englert earned the win after turning in the longest start of his pro career (7.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R-ER, 1 BB, 7 SO).

The right-hander has been victorious for the Texas Rangers’ High-A affiliate in 2 straight starts: 2-0, 0.71 (1 ER/12.2 IP), 3 BB, 16 SO, .119 opp. BA.

DOWN EAST WOOD DUCKS – W, 5-0 VS FREDERICKSBURG

Low-A, Carolina League (48-50, 4th, 8.0 GB)

RHP Emiliano Teodo (5.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 10 SO) and RHP Jose Corniell (4.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 3 SO) combined on a 3-hit shutout of visiting Fredericksburg on Thursday. The 10 strikeouts tied Teodo’s career high, also done in another no-hit effort over 5.0 IP on 6/8 at Kannapolis. Teodo is striking out 11.2 batters per 9 innings this season while holding opponents to a miniscule .186 batting average. The Woodies’ offense was led by SS Maximo Acosta, who went 2-for-3 with a HR, 3 RBI, and SB out of the leadoff spot. Acosta is slashing .368/.422/.592/1.014 (28-76) with 3 HR, 8 2B, 10 RBI, and 10 SB over his last 18 G since 7/3.

 

ACL RANGERS – L, 7-5 AT ACL PADRES

Arizona Complex League West (28-13, 1st, 7.0 GA)

The ACL Rangers could not overcome a 4-run deficit in a 7-5 loss to the ACL Padres last night in Peoria, AZ. The Padres struck for 3 runs in the 1st inning off RHP Aidan Curry (3.1 IP, 4 R-ER). LF Yeison Morrobel and C Jesus Moreno each his solo home runs for the Rangers, and Morrobel (2-for-4) was the only Ranger with multiple hits. Morrobel has multiple hits in each of his first 3 games of August at 7-for-12 with 2 HR. Despite the loss, the Rangers maintain the best win pct. in the Arizona League at 28-13 (.683).
