DENVER, Colo. — The Texas Rangers today announced that the club has activated right-handed pitcher Dennis Santana from the 15-day Injured List and optioned right-handed pitcher A.J. Alexy to Triple-A Round Rock.
Santana was on the 15-day Injured List from Aug. 3-22 with a left ankle sprain. The 26-year-old has gone 3-6 with a 5.09 ERA (23 ER/40.2 IP) and one save over 46 relief outings, second-most among Texas pitchers behind only Brett Martin (47). Santana was scoreless in 2 outings on an injury rehabilitation assignment with Round Rock, allowing 2 hits over 3.2 innings while recording 4 strikeouts and one walk. He retired all 6 batters faced in his final rehab outing on Sunday vs. El Paso (2.0 IP, 2 SO).
Alexy, who earned his first career relief win last night at Minnesota (2.1 IP, 0 R), has produced a 1-0 record and 6.23 ERA (3 ER/4.1 IP) in 2 relief appearances for Texas this season.
He has spent the balance of the campaign at Round Rock between two stints with the Rangers (July 13-16 and August 19-22), going 6-5 with a 6.27 ERA over 25 games/15 starts.

Following today’s transactions, the Rangers still have 39 players on the club’s Major League roster, along with two players (Mitch Garver and Eli White) on the 60-day Injured List.
