GREENVILLE, Texas ⁠— The Pleasant Grove Hawks overcame a 7-0 halftime deficit by scoring 28 unanswered to outlast the Brock Eagles 28-7 Friday night.

Jaylen Boardley got the action started with an interception on the opening drive of the third quarter. Spencer Tanner capped off the takeaway drive with a 14-yard touchdown run. Tanner earned the Rogers Trophy Player of the Game for carrying 13 times for 162.

“Spencer Danner and Jayden Stewart were our two best running backs on JV,” coach Josh Gibson said. “They came up and you see how hard they work. They don’t look like first-year varsity players.”

Pleasant Grove racked up 346 rushing yards, their total offense, on 46 carries.

Boardley carried seven times for 50 yards. Ezra Youngblood had a carry for two yards. Kaden McFadden had eight carries for 34 yards. Ahkhari Johnson had seven carries for 41 yards. Jayden Stewart had nine for 61. Jarrett Halter had a carry for a loss of four yards.

Tyler Moody was 6-12 for the Eagles with 83 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed six times for 20 yards.

Brett Tutter had 17 carries for 86 yards. Reid Watkins had five carries for 19 yards. The Eagles had 208 yards total offense.

“I think we started off slow in the first half and then we came out and flipped the switch and put it on them,” Youngblood said.
