Round Rock (AAA) was blown out 13-0 by the El Paso Chihuahuas last night, falling to 75-65 on the year and 4.0 GB
of El Paso for 1st place in the Pacific Coast League East Division standings. With 10 games left to play in the regular
season, the Express must win the division in order to secure a postseason berth. Rehabbing Texas RHP Spencer
Howard started for Round Rock, taking a loss (3.0 IP, 4 H, 6 R-4 ER, 3 BB, 1 SO, 68 pitches/41 strikes). Fellow rehabbing Ranger RHP Joe Barlow retired all 3 BF over a scoreless 5th inning (2 SO). RF Elier Hernandez (2-for-4,
2B) and 1B Blaine Crim (2-for-4) each had 2 hits. Round Rock will wrap its series at El Paso today at 1:05 p.m. CT.
Frisco (AA) has already clinched the Texas League South Division Second Half Championship, securing the
team’s 1st postseason berth since 2014. The RoughRiders will face the San Antonio Missions in the Division Championship Series, a 3-game set scheduled to begin on Sept. 20. Last night, Frisco fell 7-5 at Northwest Arkansas in a game started by RHP Ricky Vanasco (ND, 4.2 IP, 6 H, 5 R-3 ER, 3 BB, 2 SO, 1 HR). 1B Frainyer Chavez (3-for-4) led the ‘Riders with 3 hits (all singles). CF Evan Carter (1-for-3, 2 BB) reached base 3 times on a single and 2 walks, and is batting .438 (7-16) thru 5 G at Double-A.
Frisco, the Texas Rangers’ Double-A affiliate, will play its regular season finale today at 2:05 p.m. CT at NWA.
Hickory (A+) finished the regular season 3rd in the South Atlantic League South Division with a 66-65 record. Ended the season 12.5 GB of 1st-place Bowling Green (78-52) and did not qualify for the SAL Playoffs.
Down East (A) finished the regular season 3rd in the Carolina League North Division with a 65-66 record. Ended the season 10.5 GB of 1st-place Fredericksburg and did not qualify for the CAR Playoffs.
