PARIS, Texas — Spencer Danner churned 213 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Pleasant Grove Hawks 30-14 over the Paris Wildcats Friday night at Wildcat Stadium.

Danner, who was the Rogers Trophy Player of the game, averaged 8.9 yards per carry.

The Hawks took a 14-7 lead with Jayden Stewart’s 3-yard touchdown run in the second quarter with 3:28 to go and never looked back. Stewart had two carries for eight yards.

Jaylen Boardley had 12 carries for 38 yards. Kadden McFadden had two carries for three yards. Torrion Phillips had five carries for 42 yards and a 5-yard touchdown catch.

Buck Anderson had a carry for five yards. Jordan Patterson had three carries for 34 yards.

Quarterback Ahkhari Johnson completed one pass on five attempts for a 5-yard touchdown. Johnson also rushed six times for 98 yards.

Pleasant Grove out-gained the Wildcats 446 to 153.

“I thought our kids did a great job,” coach Josh Gibson said. “Had them playing real well and bouncing back from a tough situation tonight. Tough situation for those penalties. I think we had seven or eight 15-yarders called against us, and it’s never happened, and our kids held their heads together, and we ended up with over 440 rushing yards. We knew at the end of the game we were going to have to slug it out in the trenches.”

Pleasant Grove improves to 4-1. The Hawks have an open week on Sept. 30, but will commence district play against the Gilmer Buckeyes on Oct. 7 at Hawk Field.
