Second-ranked Gilmer (5-0, 1-0) solidified its ranking Friday night with an impressive 35-14 win over the third-ranked Pleasant Grove Hawks.

The Buckeyes never trailed, leading 14-0 at halftime. Pleasant Grove struggled early against Gilmer’s dominating defense.

Tennison sparks second-ranked Gilmer

That changed a little in the final two quarters. The Hawks were still fighting in the fourth quarter with the score 28-14 when sophomore quarterback Cadon Tennison threw a touchdown pass to Rohan Fluellen.

Quarterback Ahkari Johnson scored Pleasant Grove’s first touchdown on a 45-yard dash. Johnson rushed for 122 yards on 17 carries. He was 4 of 14 passing for 71 yards. The Hawks finished with 228 total yards, most in the second half.

Pleasant Grove’s final score came on a 22-yard run by Spencer Danner. R.J. Collins had two receptions for 46 yards.

The Hawks host Pittsburg next week, while Gilmer entertains Liberty-Eylau, a 40-25 winner over Spring Hill Friday.
