Tigers’ Curry claims medalist title with spectacular 64 on second day

Texas High’s Thomas Curry challenged the Texarkana Country Club course record of 62 Saturday morning in the 2022 Jay Brewer Memorial Tiger Classic with a 64 to win individual medalist at 132.

Brooke Simmons of Highland Park also had a brilliant round at 66 to finish two shots back of Curry.

“We’ve got a young team this season,” said THS coach Ryan Huntze. “Thomas was simply incredible.”


Medalist only Tiger with fire power

The Tigers’ next three players tied for 45th place at 157. John D. Patterson posted 79 and 78, while Fox Hambleton shot 81-76 and Kaiden Neeley shot 79-78. Will Davis posted 89 Friday and improved nine shots Saturday. Even Sutton competed as a medalist and shot 89-85.

The Woodlands won the team title by one shot (566 to 567) over Highland Park. Houston Memorial was third at 583; Trinity Christian fourth with 593. Texas High was eighth with rounds of 307 and 296 for 603. Pleasant Grove placed 18th.

The Hawks team was made up of Saxton Lawrence, Landon Prejean, Corbyn Spry and Tate Gonzales.
