BRISTOL, Conn. (AP) — A police officer who was wounded in an apparent ambush that killed two of his fellow officers fired the shot that killed the suspect.
Police in Bristol, Connecticut say Alec Iurato was hit by gunfire and returned fire, killing Nicholas Brutcher.
Officers were killed in shootout Wednesday
Fellow officers Dustin Demonte and Alex Hamzy were killed in the shootout Wednesday night outside a home where they were responding to a call about possible domestic violence. Authorities have said the officers were lured to the location deliberately.
The 35-year-old Brutcher died from a gunshot wound to the neck. His brother was wounded. Iurato was released from the hospital on Thursday.
