Pleasant Grove coach Josh Gibson answers question from Fox Sports Texarkana's Bob Degiorno after the Hawks' 63-0 rout over Spring Hill.

LONGVIEW, Texas — Everyone in a Pleasant Grove uniform got playing time Thursday night as the Hawks warmed up for the 4A Division II playoffs with a 63-0 romp past Spring Hill.

The Hawks scored all the points they would need in the first quarter on touchdowns by Jayden Stewart, Victor Shaw and Kadden McFadden. Stewart and McFadden would go on to score three touchdowns in the game.

“This is a great way to end the regular season,” said a jubilant winning coach Josh Gibson. “We installed some new things, and was extremely balanced. It was special, a special night. All of our players were having fun and that’s what it’s all about. Our kids are selfless, and they pull for each other.”

Quarterback Ahkhari Johnson passed for two TDs, finishing 12 of 16 for 228 yards. Tight end Lance Jackson was Johnson’s favorite target with four receptions for 91 yards.

The shutout was Pleasant Grove’s third in district and second straight, and the Hawks also blanked Liberty-Eylau in the second half of that game.

Stewart scored on a 6-yard run with 9:01 left in the first quarter to ignite the rout. Six minutes later Shaw hauled in a 22-yard scoring pass from Johnson. Less than two minutes later Kadden McFadden hit paydirt on a 6-yard run.

That margin grew to 35-0 at halftime. Jackson caught an 11-yard pass for six points with 10:55 remaining in the first half. Stewart danced 22 yards in the final seconds to make it 35-0.

Pleasant Grove coaches started substituting early in the second half after Stewart scored his third TD on a 2-yard plunge. McFadden scored the next two touchdowns, the final one with 5:51 remaining. Three seconds later the Hawks recovered a fumble in the Spring Hill end zone for six points.

Jaylen Boardley was the Hawks leading rusher with 108 yards on 10 carries. Stewart gained 53 yards on nine carries, and McFadden ran for 44 yards on seven totes.

Pleasant Grove’s bi-district playoff game will be against Van. The site and time had not been determined late Thursday night.
