The Mount Pleasant – Chapel Hill Lady Devils hosted the Pleasant Grove Lady Hawks in girls varsity basketball Tuesday. Chapel Hill defeated the Lady Hawks 61-39.

Chapel Hill was up on PG 20-2 at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Hawks were only outscored 41-37 in the second through fourth quarters. However the slow start was too much to over come for the PG girls varsity hoopsters on the road.

Take out the first quarter and it would have been close

“Take the first quarter away and it’s a totally different ball game,” Codi Davidson, Pleasant Grove Lady Hawks head coach said. “We had a slow start and it cost us.

Coach Davidson said the Lady Hawks finally figured out how to stop Lady Devil center Mackenzie Espinosa and started gaining ground. Espinosa , a 6-foot junior led the Lady Devils (2-1)  with 23 points.

“It was a little too late,” Coach Davidson said. “I’m proud of the girls though, they fought until the last second. We keep getting better every game. Now we just get rested for our tournament this week.”

The Lady Hawks were led by senior Autumn Crouch. Autumn scored 17 points. She was named the 94.1 FM ESPN Texarkana/Rogers Trophy Player of the game on the radio broadcast.

The Pleasant Grove Lady Hawks (1-2 ) will play in the Queen City tournament in Queen City, Texas Thursday and Friday.
