Rust College lost its first three games by a total of four points, but there was no doubts Friday night at the Patterson Student Center with Texas A&M-Texarkana dominating the Bearcats, 89-69 (2-5).
The Eagles improved to 4-1 and they’re scheduled to open Red River Athletic Conference play Saturday night against Wylie at the Patterson Center.
Powell, Ouellette lead Eagles past Rust
Five players scored in double figures for TAMU-T. Kobe Powell led the way with 18 points, closely followed by Texarkana senior Connor Ouellettes’ 17. Both players converted three treys. Miles Black, Francis Doe and Reschard Greene scored 10 each for the Eagles.
Trey Spencer led Texarkana’s effort on the glass with 10 rebounds. Davonte Craven pulled down 11 caroms, but the Eagles won that battle overall, 43-35. Fourteen of Texarkana’s rebounds came at the offensive end of the court.
TAMU-T did have a disappointing 16 turnovers, but the Bearcats struggled more with 19 turnovers.
The host teams took command early and built a 40-26 advantage in the first 20 minutes.
