Hawks overcome Arkansas High with outstanding defense

Pleasant Grove's Halston Baca led all scorers Saturday night with 16 points at the Gunslinger tournament.


NEW BOSTON, Texas — Pleasant Grove’s boys took home the third place trophy from the 2022 Gunslinger tournament with solid defense against crosstown rival Arkansas High, 53-38.

Halston Baca led the Hawks with 16 points and he blocked two shots. Torion Phillips was the only other Hawk in double digits with 12 points. Ben Bricker scored eight points, while Jaylen Boardley and Drew Glover tallied six each.


“I thought our kids got better each game this weekend,” said winning coach Craig Collvins. “Thought our kids were dialed in and have made tremendous strides, especially on the defensive end. I’m looking forward to watching us continue to grow this season.”

The Razorbacks were led by Mikel Watson with 13 points and Zach Graff added 11.

Pleasant Grove’s next game is Tuesday at home against Marshall. Arkansas High will host state-ranked Lake Hamilton Tuesday night.  The Hawks’ game will be live on 94.1 FM ESPN-Texarkana.
