ARLINGTON, TX-The fifth time was the charm for Albany head coach Denney Faith. In his 41st year at Albany and 36th as head coach, the Lions outscored the Mart Panthers 41-21 here at AT&T stadium in Arlington in the 2A division 2 state championship game.
Albany’s defense was special tonight stopping the high powered Panthers.
Mart who beat Linden Kildare in round one of the playoffs and James Bowie in the third could not stop the Lions hard running offense.
QB Cole Chapman and RB Coy Levever. Who combined for 241 yards rushing of the 328 rushing yards that Albany had led the way for the Lions rushing attack.
Turning point came in the 4th quarter
The real turning point came with 9:48 to go in the 4th quarter when Albany stopped Mart on a fourth and 6 at the Albany 20yard line.
The Lions ran out the clock and captured there first state championship in 61 years!
A combined 15,439 fans watched the 6man division 1, 2 and 2A division 2 games.
