ARLINGTON, TEXAS-For the second year in a row the South Oak Cliff Golden Bears are state champions. They defeated Port Neches-Groves 34-24 in the 5A-DII state championship football game at AT&T Stadium Friday.
Falling behind early to the PNG Indians but staying within striking distance, the Golden Bears were able to pull out an historic second straight state football championship in a row for a Dallas ISD team. It had never been done before.
William Little contributed a lot
William Little SOC quarterback threw for 235 yards while three other Golden Bears combined for 100 yards rushing.
The SOC defense contributed two safeties to the total and kicker Diego Varela added to field goals from 21, 31, and 22 yards.
Trailing at halftime 17-12 the Golden Bears scored 19 points in the 3rd quarter, while the defense shut the Indians out.
PNG scored a touchdown with just one minute left to play to cut the lead to 34-24, but it was to little to late for the Indians.
The speed, size and athletic talent came to the forefront in the second half of the game for the Golden Bears.
