KISSIMMEE, Fla.–Fouke’s girls fell behind early and still trailed 32-30 going into the fourth quarter against Class 5A Lebanon (Oregon). The Lady Panthers’ defense held Lebanon to one point the final eight minutes and won their opener in the KSA Invitational in Florida.
The second-seeded Lady Warriors dominated early with their superior height. Lebanon led 23-17 at halftime.
Defense beats Oregon school
Logan Smith led the Panthers’ offense with nine points, while Nailah Zetrenne contributed eight points. Fouke improves to 14-1 on the season.
“We had a rough start,” said Fouke coach Mo Williams. “We seemed flat and sluggish, and Lebanon’s size gave us some trouble. In the second half our defense came alive and we started to find some rhythm offensively. I’m extremely proud of how our girls fought to get back into the game.”
The Panthers will play in the second round at 8:30 a.m. against the winner of Affton out of Missouri or Mablehead in Massachusetts.
