Canton Pleasant Grove Paris Tournament

The Canton Eagles defeated the Pleasant Grove Hawks 46-31 in the first game of the Paris boys varsity basketball tournament for both teams Wednesday.

The game was played at the Paris junior high gym.

Canton (18-2) was led by Garrett Walker who scored 11 points. Chanton Prox and Jaden Pickrill each scored 9 for the Eagles.

Pleasant Grove’s leading scorer was senior Ben Bricker who scored 12 points. Nick Anderson scored 6 for the Hawks ( 7-8) and Drew Glover and Justin Casteel each pitched in with four.

Pleasant Grove head coach Craig Collvins said his Hawks team started off slow on both ends of the court. He was right. Canton led 14-4 after the first quarter.

Hawks dug too big of a hole

“I thought we had enough pride to get after it,” Coach Collvins said.

The Hawks got within eight.

“Obviously we were trying to shake the rust off.” Coach Collvins said. “Hopefully we will play better this evening.

PG will play Life Waxahachie at 5:3o p..m. Wednesday in the Paris high main gym. The game will be broadcast live on 94.1 FM ESPN Texarkana.
