HAWKINS, Texas — Texas A&M-Texarkana’s men and women find themselves both leading the Red River Athletic Conference basketball races after Thursday’s games at Jarvis Christian University.
The Eagles’ men went into their game heavily favored, but struggled to win, 72-68. TAMU-T dominated the women’s contest, 69-47. The men improve to 16-3 overall and 9-2 in the RRAC, one game ahead of LSU-Shreveport. The women are 16-1 and 11-0, two games ahead of LSU-Shreveport.
Kobe Powell struggled from the field, but was picked up by teammate Tray Spencer’s 16 points and 11 rebounds. Colby Rasberry and Damani Whitlock scored 14 points each. Whitlock was 10-for-10 from the charity stripe. Senior Connor Ouellette added 13 points.
It wasn’t a good shooting night for either team. The Eagles outrebounded Jarvis Christian (5-10, 3-8) 41-29. TAMU-T’s defense forced 21 turnovers.
Lady Eagles bounce Jarvis Christian
The nationally-ranked Lady Eagles continue to set school records by climbing to 16-1 on the year and 11-0 in the RRAC by beating Jarvis.
Vasha Moore and Breasia Matthews led the Eagles’ balanced scoring with 12 points each. Diamond Sweats added 11 points.
Both Texarkana teams play at Texas College on Saturday.
