DE KALB, Texas — The Bowie County Sheriff’s Office says they have arrested a De Kalb man on the charge of murder.

The sheriff’s office says that 38-year-old Derrelexis Dewayne Betts shot 44-year-old Demond Monta Easter multiple times at his residence on County Road 4252 in De Kalb on Feb. 4.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies arrived to find Easter had been shot multiple times. Life Net Ambulance transported Easter to CHRISTUS St. Michael’s Hospital, but Easter died as a result of his injuries, the sheriff’s office says.

Easter’s body has been sent to the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas for an autopsy.

The sheriff’s office believes that Betts shot Easter during the course of an argument.

Betts was arrested and booked into the Bi State Jail. His bond has not been set.
