PG Lady Hawks softball

The Pleasant Grove Lady Hawks softball team split their 2 games at the Carthage tournament Saturday finishing the tournament 3-1 and ending the week with a season record of 4-1.

The Lady Hawks took it on the chin in their first game Saturday. The West Rusk Lady Raiders defeated the Lady Hawks 4-2.

The Lady Hawks were only able to muster 3 hits in the loss. MJ WIllimas Presley Humphrey and Abby Runion each had 1 hit, Presley’s was a double.

Pleasant Grove Lady Hawks Coach Becca Collom said her team had an opportunity to make adjustments

“First game we adjusted a little late to a little faster pitcher. We finally did but with a time limit game; we ran out of time, Lady Hawks head coach Becca Collom said.”

Coach Collum said she was proud that the Lady Hawks didn’t quit in the West Rusk game. She was also proud of how they made adjustments and how they chipped into West Rusk’s lead.

Plesant Grove won their second game at the Carthage tournament. They beat the Harmony Lady Eagles 5-1.

Coach Collom said the Lady Hawks had to adjust to a slower pitcher the their second game.

“it’s always good to be put in those positions, it will help us out later on down the line. We adjusted quicker and had some timely hits to clear runners,” Becca Collom said. ”

Presley Humphrey hit a home run for the Lady Hawks

The Lady Hawks had a timely double that cleared runners and a 2-run-home run from senior Presley Humphrey.

Coach Collum said, overall it was a good tournament for PG. She liked making adjustments and felt like both pitchers, Sarah Hackleman and Abby Runion pitched good innings.

“They’re (Hackleman and Runion) getting more confident every game,” Collom said. “I’m always glad to see early grit and fight.

The Pleasant Grove Lady Hawks softball team will host Mount Pleasant Tuesday. Thursday thorough Friday the Lady Hawks will compete in the Mount Pleasant tournament.
