#10 Plesant Grove opens their 2023 baseball season at home Monday 7 p.m. at Hawks Field versus #4 Carthage.
Plesant Grove has a deep roster in 2023 led by senior JM Long, junior Brenton Clark. Long has signed with Texas Tech and Clark has committed to Arkansas. Junior Cade Martin is another upper clansman leader on the Hawks.
PG has a plethora of underclassman that should have big seasons this year.
The Hawks pitching staff is led by to sophomore sensations, Jarrett Halter and “Cool Hand” Luke Flanagan. Martin will also pitch as will two new comer freshman, lefties Walker Wright and Hunter Rose. Rose has a D-I offer from Arizona State. Sophomore right-Chandler Williamson will also see a lot of innings on the hill.
“They’ve both (Halter and Flanagan) had outstanding spring practice and came in ready to work,” Hawks head baseball coach Riley Fincher said. “They’ve taken huge steps this this year on the mound and all around as two of the the programs leaders.”
When Cade Martin pitches, freshman Buck aka “Uncle Buck” Anderson will catch. Bucks’ brother is Tucker Anderson , the home run king on the Hawks 2021 state championship team. Tucker is currently playing for Ouachita Baptist.
Spencer Browning a freshman for the Hawks has already received and offer from the Arkansas Razorbacks.
Ty Boozer is a sophomore who can play first, third and in other spots if needed. Ty “The Blazzin Asian” is perhaps the fastest player on the team.
“The good thing about this team is we have players that can play several positions,” Fincher said.
Cade Martin can play almost every position
Coach Fincher said Cade Martin will pitch , play first, catch, and play some in outfield.
“We’ll see a lot of Cade Martin,” Coach Fincher said.
Opening day the Hawks lineup will feature Colby Lewis in left Brenton Clark center and Hunter Rose in right. If Flanagan starts on the mound, the Hawks will play Anderson behind the plate, Martin at first, Halter at second, JM Long at shortstop and Spencer Browning at third.
Coach Fincher’s assistant coaches are Joe Pearlman, David Kenndy and Trey Hart.
