
#4 Carthage downed the #10 Pleasant Grove Hawks 13-1 Monday night at Hawks Field.
Bulldogs shortstop Connor Cuff hit 2-3-run home runs to lead Carthage.

Carthage starting pitcher Brooks Brewster was the winning pitcher. Brewster pitched 4- 1/3 innings for Carthage, (1-0) allowing only 2 hits and 1 run while striking out 4 and walking none. Ty Chandler pitched the final 2- 2/3 innings for Carthage persevering the win.
Hawks threw 5 different pitchers
Pleasant Grove (0-1) used 5 pitchers including starter Luke Flanagan who pitched 3 1/3 innings allowing 2 runs on 3 hits sticking out 2 and walking two. Walker Wright, Chandler Williamson, Hunter Digby and Caleb McIntosh also pitched for the Hawks.
Hawks freshman 3rd baseman Spencer Browning was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Hawks junior center fielder Brenton Clark was 1 for 3 and made some terrific plays in the filed.
Pleasant Grove struggled in the field committing 6 errors in the game.
Hawks head coach Riley Fincher loved the community support
“First off, I thought it was a great atmosphere. It was great to see our community come support those young men,” Riley Fincher, Pleasant Grove Hawks head baseball coach said. “We obviously have to play better, and we will get that.”
Coach Fincher said they’ll get after it at practice Tuesday and Wednesday and work to get better.
“The Pleasant Grove Hawks will play at the Whitehouse Tournament Thursday through Saturday. The Hawks games are carried live on 94.1 FM ESPN-Texarkana.
