
Luke Flanagan and Cade Martin pitched the Pleasant Grove Hawks to a 2-0 win over the Crandall at the Lufkin high school baseball tournament Friday.
Flanagan started and pitched 5 1/3 innings allowing 2 runs on 4 hits while striking out 6 and walking one. Martin came in and relived Flanagan. He pitched a final inning and a third allowing no runs , no hits and walking one.
Hawks head coach Riley Fincher was happy
“It was good to see Luke to competed again for 5 2/3’s and Cade came in and threw the ball extremely well,” Pleasant Grove head baseball coach Riley Fincher said. “I thought our hitters stepped up today and that’s all we can ask for.”
Freshman Hunter Rose led the Hawks at the plate with 2 doubles going 2-for-3 with 2 RBi.
JM Long was 2-for-three to go along with a golden glove like performance in the field.
The Hawks defense was outstanding. They committed no errors. Hawks shortstop JM Long and first baseman Ty Boozer each made a couple of spectacular web gems and the game ended with Martin picking off a runner at first.
The Hawks (5-3) next game at the Lufkin tournament is Friday afternoon at around 3:45 against College Station. Jarret Halter will be the starting pitcher for the Hawks against College Station.
