
The Pleasant Grove Hawks boys varsity baseball team cut down the Pine Tree Pirates 10-2 in the Hawks final game at the Hallsville tournament Saturday. The Hawks won 3 and tied 1 at the tournament.
Pleasant Grove freshman Spencer Browning was the wining pitcher. Browning pitched 4 innings of relief of starter Brenton Clark who pitched only 2/3’s of an inning. Browning allowed 1 run, 3 hits and he struck out 3. Browning allowed allowed no walks. Justin Poe pitched the final 2/3’s of the lastl inning which was the bottom of the 5th. The game was called after 5 innings because of the mercy rule.
Hawks star Brenton Clark led the Hawks hit parade
Hawk junior Brenton Clark continued to hit well. Clark was 3-for-4 with a triple, double and RBI. Cade Martin was 3-for-3 with a double and 2 RBI, JM Long was 2-for-4 with a double and RBI and freshman Buck Anderson was 1-for-3 with a 3 RBI triple.
“It was a good win. Our guys come out early in the morning and swung the bats and competed well,” Pleasant Grove heads baseball coach Riley Fincher said. “I thought our pitcher Spencer Browning pitched well in 5 strong innings; it was a good win for our team.”
Pleasant Grove (9-4-1) will open district play Tuesday night at 7 p.m. at Paris. The Hawks versus Paris game will be broadcast live on 94.1 FM ESPN-Texarkana.
