Redwater High School Dragon Theatre placed second at their district’s One Act Play competition, advancing them to the Bi-District contest. There, they would go on to place fifth.
A one act play is, as the title suggests, a play featuring only one act. The University Interscholastic League’s (or UIL) One Act Play contest allows for high schools throughout Texas to compete at different levels. These include zone, district, bi-district, area, region, and state. Judges select three performances to advance to the next level. It was at the 14-3A district contest that Redwater placed second with their performance of Christopher Durang’s “The Actor’s Nightmare.” This placement advanced them to the bi-district competition. Redwater Dragon Theatre would go on to place fifth there. While that win didn’t advance them to the next round, it’s nonetheless a noteworthy achievement for the group.
Several Redwater students received accolades.
During the two competitions, Redwater Dragon Theatre students received a number of individual awards. At district, student Logan Brock won the award for All Star Cast, with his co-star Emma Campbell receiving an All Star Cast Honorable Mention. A member of the Dragon’s technical crew, Rylee Brown, received an award for Outstanding Technician. Logan Brock and Rylee Brown would go on to win those awards again at the bi-district level. At bi-district, Gracie McCoy and Cami McWilliams received awards for Honorable Mention All Star Cast. The entire crew was awarded with Outstanding Tech Crew.
