
The Pleasant Grove Lady Hawks softball team mounted a miraculous comeback and defeated the North Lamar Panterettes 13-11 at Lady Hawk Field Friday.
Pleasant Grove stole the victory in a High-Scoring Affair. Both Pleasant Grove Lady Hawks and North Lamar Lady Pantherettes had their offenses going on Friday, but the Lady Hawks eventually prevailed 13-11.
North Lamar jumped on top
North Lamar opened up scoring in the first inning, scoring 5 runs. Pleasant Grove answered with 2 of their own highlighted by the long HR by Presley Humphrey, her 5th of the year. However, The Pantherettes would respond with 5 more of their own in the top of the 4th to take a 10-2 lead. Cue the comeback!!!!!
The Lady Hawks caught up
Pleasant Grove Lady Hawks would catch up and pull away for good with nine runs of their own in the fourth inning. In the fourth Gracie Whitecotton’s sac fly scored one run for the Hawks, Mackenzie Williams singled, scoring one run, Adison Koller doubled, scoring two runs, Abby Runion singled, scoring one run, an error scored one run for PG, an intentional walk to Presley set the stage for Sarah Hackleman who hit a 3 run home run scoring three runs giving the Lady Hawks their first lead 11-10.
Runion pitched the Lady Hawks to victory. The hurler went four and a third innings, allowing six runs on seven hits and striking out four.
Hackleman started the game for Pleasant Grove, and also came back in for the save. The pitcher surrendered five runs on four hits over two and two-thirds innings, striking out three and walking zero.
The Lady Hawks saw the ball well today, racking up 12 hits in the game. Hackleman, Jacklynn Smith, and Koller each managed multiple hits. Smith and Hackleman had three hits to lead the team.
Lady Hawks head coach was like a proud mama
“I was proud of the girls for staying calm and getting the job done, “Pleasant Grove Lady Hawks head coach Becca Collom said. “Came up big passing the bat in that big 4th inning all with 2 outs. Definitely something we can use! We performed under pressure always good to see! It was a total team win, they never quit.”
