
North Lamar took a early 1-0 lead but Pleasant Grove pulled away for a 8-3 win at Hawk Field Tuesday.
The Plesant Grove Hawks overcame wind, rain and tough North Lamar pitching. The Hawks won it for their faithful fans at Hawk Field. Hunter Rose pitched the first 3 innings in the rain for the Hawks. Rose, a freshman allowed 3 runs on 4 hits and striking out five. Rose walked 2 batters.
Jarret Halter pitched the final 4 innings earning the win. Halter allowed no runs and 3 hits striking out 5. Halter didn’t allow a walk.
Hawks center fielder and second baseman Brenton Clark was 2-for-3 with a home run and 2 runs scored. Jarret Halter was 2-for-4 with 2 RBI. JM Long was 2-for-3 with a run scored. Hawks cleanup hitter Cade Martin was 1-for-4 with an RBI and run scored. Hunter Rose was 2-for-3 with an RBI and run scored. Freshman Buck Anderson was 1-for-2 with an RBI and run scored. Freeman Spencer Browning was 1-for-4 with a run scored. Ty Boozer scored a run. Freshman Jace Elrod was 1-for-3 with a double, 2-RBI and a run scored.
North Lamar was led by Matthew Sandlin. Sandlin was 2-for-4. Panthers first baseman and relief pitcher Dawson Taylor was was 2-for-three.
Hawks head coach Riley Fincher had mixed emotions after the game
“We are excited by the win but I told the team that we were a little flat halfway through the game tonight,” Riley Fincher Pleasant Grove Hawks head baseball coach said. “We told them it’s not easy to win especially these games. North Lamar is talented. We’ve got to learn to compete every single pitch.”
