Boozer’s walk off RBI single lifts Hawks to 11-10 win over Pirates

Walker Wright drove in the tying run and Ty Boozer drove in the the walk off winning run. The Pleasant Grove Hawks beat the Pittsburg Pirates 11-10 at Hawk Field Saturday.

The varsity baseball game was a make up game for the one rained out on Friday. There was no rain Saturday, it was sunny and in the mid seventies. However, it was raining hits for both teams in a seesaw affair the the Hawks were fortunate to pull out in the final inning.

The Hawks had 10 hits and Pittsburg had eight.

Both teams used 3 pitchers. Pleasant Grove starter Luke Flanagan pitched the first 2 and 2/3’s innings. Flanagan allowed 3 runs on 5 hits striking out 4 and walking three. Freshman lefty Walker Wright pitched 3 and 1/3 before making way for Jarret Halter who ended up earning the win for the Hawks.

Boozer Hawks win over Pirates

Pleasant Grove’s Brenton Clark was 2-for-3 with a triple, RBI ad run scored. Hawk senior JM Long was 1-for-2 with an RBI and 4 runs scored. Hawk cleanup hitter Cade Martin was 2-for-5 with an RBI and run. Freshman Hunter Rose was 2-for-2 with a triple, double and 2 RBI. Burk Anderson was 1-for-4, Wright was 1-for-3 with a game tying RBI and Ty Boozer was 2-for-4 with 4 RBi including the game winner and a run scored.

Pittsburg’s Landon Graham had 2 home runs.

Riley Fincher the head coach of the Hawks loves his team.

“Anytime you come out here and win it’s a great thing,” Riley Fincher the Pleasant Grove Hawks head baseball coach said.”Winning is not easy and this young team are finding ways to win. We’re definitely proud of that. We love our team, we love our guys we love the way we play the game and we’re are going to keep improving the way we practice and the way we play in the game.

Next up for the Hawks

Pleasant Grove (13-4-1, 4-0)  will play at crosstown rival Liberty-Eylau Tuesday at 6 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on 94.1 FM ESPN-Texarkana.
