
The Pleasant Grove Hawks earned a district title with a 10-3 come from behind win over the North Lamar Panthers at Hawks Field Friday.
Hawks players honored their favorite teachers before the game. Then, the Hawks taught North Lamar a lesson. It ain’t over till it’s over.
Pleasant Grove trailed 3-1 going into the bottom of the fifth inning. Then, the Hawks exploded for 6 runs and never looked back.
Jarret Halter a sophomore right hander was the winning pitcher. Halter relieved starter Hunter Rose with 1 out in the bottom of the third inning with runners on first and second and no outs and a 2-0 count on Gage Reeves. Halter (10-0) allowed 1 run, 2 hits, striking out 6 while walking two.
Rose pitched 2 1/3 innings allowing 2 runs, on 4 hits, striking out 4 and walking one.
North Lamar staring pitcher Jaxon Spangler held the Hawks at bay until the 5th inning. Spangler was replaced in the bottom of the fifth by Corbin Blease after he walked 3 batters and hit one.
Brenton Clark was 1-for-3 for the Hawks with a double, RBI and run. Halter was 1-for-3 with an RBI. JM Long was 2-for-5 with 2 RBI and a run. Cade Martin was 1-for-3 with 2 RBI and a run. Buck Anderson was 1-for-3, Spencer Browning was 1-for-3 with a run , Ty Boozer had an RBI and scored 2 runs and Jace Elrod was 1-1 and scored 3 runs.
Hawks head coach Riley Fincher said it was a good win
“It was a good win for us. Their pitcher Spangler was really tough early on but our guys did a great job the whole game of seeing a lot of pitches at the plate and getting him tired and getting him out in the fifth Riley Fincher Pleasant Grove Hawks head baseball coach said.”Our 2 pitchers tonight did a great job filling up the strike zone and defensively we continue to improve every time we step on the field.
Pleasant Grove (22-5-1, 13-0) will host the Pittsburg Pirates Tuesday at 7 p.m. Tuesday is senior night.The Hawks versus Pittsburg game will be broadcast live on 94.1 FM ESPN-Texarkana.
