
The #6 Pleasant Grove Hawks finished their district season 15-0 with a 2-0 shutout at #18 Liberty-Eylau Friday night.
Both starting pitchers did not allow a run. Hawks starter Walker Wright who is a freshman lefty pitched 6 innings allowing 2 hits while striking out 2 and walking one. Hawk ace Jarret Halter pitched the final inning allowing 2 hits, no runs and striking out the side.
Leopards starter Cal Jones left the mound after pitching 5 scoreless innings with the game tied at no runs apiece. However, relievers Richie Plant and Dylan Nabors allowed a combined 2 runs on 5 hits resulting in the Hawks win.
For the Hawks, Brenton Clark was 1-for-3. Halter was 2-for-4 with a double and a run. JM Long wet 2-for-3 with a double and a run. Cade Martin was 1-for-2 with an RBI. Hunter Rose was 1-for-3 with a double and RBI. Buck Anderson was 1-for-three.
Cal Jones was 2-for-3 for LE. Britian Pipes was 1-for 3 for the Leopards, Dylan Garton was 2-for-3 and Aydan Easter was 1-for-2 with a double.
Hawks head coach Riley Fincher said it was a big win
“it was a great win for us,” Riley Fincher, the Pleasant Grove head baseball coach said. “It was a great team we played and they’re very well coached.”
Fincher said that the LE starting pitcher (Cal Jones) pitched real well. He also was happy with his starting pitcher Walker Wright.
“He (Walker Wright) did a great job keeping us in the game and the defense played well behind him.

Next up
The Hawks (26-3-1, 15-0) finished district in first place and the Leopards (23-5, 13-2) came in second. Both the Hawks and Leopards will play in the Bi-District playoffs next week against teams and dates to be announced.
