
GEORGETOWN, Texas — University of Arkansas golf signee Thomas Curry was practicing in 2017 at Texarkana Country Club with two future Texas High teammates.
The late Jay Brewer was the Tigers’ head golf coach that year, and boldly predicting Curry and company would enjoy special high school careers. Curry’s schoolboy career came to an end Tuesday at White Wing Golf Club with a gold medal in the 2023 UIL 5A State Golf Tournament. THS was making its third straight appearance in the state tournament.
Curry followed Monday’s 6-under-par 66 with a 68 in the 36-hole event for a 5-stroke victory over Frisco Wakeland’s Luke Colton (70-211). Cedar Park’s Kim Brecken took home the bronze medal (67-213).
Montgomery Lake Creek captured gold in the team competition with (292-595). Comal Smithson Valley was second (299-601), and Wakeland was third (302-605). Texas High was two shots out of medal race (302-607).

Coach Huntze elated with Curry
“Thomas had an outstanding performance at the 5A state championship at White Wing,” said Texas High coach Ryan Huntze. “He dominated the field by five shots. he was firing on all cylinders, and it was fun to watch.
“I’m super excited to see what he does at the next level.”
John Patterson and Will Davis tied at 153. Evan Sutton posted 159, and Fox Hambleton 160.
