Pleasant Grove Hawks senior quarterback Ahkhari Johnson

Pleasant Grove senior quarterback Ahkhari Johnson hit senior wide-out Jackson Gibson in the end zone on a 32 yard touchdown pass with 52 seconds left and the Pleasant Grove Hawks defeated the Brock Eagles 10-7 Friday.

The game was the first of the season for both teams and played at Royce City ISD Stadium in front of a decent crowd who came and weathered the heat.

The Hawks scored first on a 39 yard field goal by Carter Buxton as time expired in the first half giving PG a 3-0 lead going into the locker room at the half.

The Eagles took the lead in the second half on a 6-yard touchdown run by running back Brett Tutter.

Then, with 1:50 left in the game and with the Hawks down to 1 time out; Eagles quarterback Brody Woods fumbled on quarterback sneak. He had enough for the first down but while he pushed the pile, he was stripped of the ball. The fumble was recovered by Ahkhari Johnson. The Hawks marched down field 72 yards on 4 plays and won the game on the Johnson to Jackson TD pass.

EPIC!

Needless to say, Hawks head coach Josh Gibson was proud of his team for not giving up and proud of his son who scored the winning points.

“I’m proud of my son, I think a lot of time coaches kids have it rough but he’s done such a good job working his tail off to be a great teammate,” Pleasant Grove Hawks head coach Josh Gibson said.”He’s real relationable and that’s what it’s all about.”
