Flu Bug Hitting Schools Hard This Winter

School Bus

Flu Bug hitting schools hard this winter. Most schools in the Texarkana and Four States Area reporting increased absences due to illness.

Some are experiencing very high rates of absenteeism.

These have decided to close Friday. This will give the school districts the weekend to heavy clean, and disinfect all campuses.

It will also make it possible to separate students, teachers, and staff. It is hoped that this will make it possible to slow down the spread of the flu and other illnesses, by breaking the chain of contact.

The following schools decided to cancel classes on Friday:

Jefferson, ISD

Gladewater ISD

Linden-Kildare ISD

Mt. Vernon ISD

Eustace ISD

La Poyner ISD

Oakwood ISD

Murchison ISD

Karnack ISD

Genesis Prime Care

All schools listed above expect to re-open classes on Monday, February 11th.

Genesis Prime Care says Remember to stay home from work or school if you have the flu. Avoid contact with others. If you are well, be sure and wash your hands frequently. Genesis Prime Care has locations in Texarkana and Marshall.

The flu can be dangerous. A fourth grader at Avery ISD died last week from complications from the illness.

Our hearts and prayers go out to this child’s family and classmates.
