Hogs blast Tide 12-3 in series opener

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The Arkansas Razorbacks belted three home runs en route to a 12-3 win over the Alabama Crimson Tide Friday night at Sewell-Thomas Stadium.

The win keeps the Hogs at a perfect 4-0 mark in Southeastern Conference play and a 19-3 record overall.

“Both (Jack) Kenley and (Jacob) Nesbit are swinging the bat well right now,” said Arkansas head coach Dave Van Horn. “It’s good we’re getting a lot of production at the end of the order and they’re contributing offensively. Really the whole lineup has been doing a great job. (Casey) Martin has been struggling a little bit, but he’s a great defender and we know he’s going to turn it around.”

The Hogs got out to a 7-0 lead in the second inning when they scored six runs, all coming with two outs and against Crimson Tide starting pitcher Sam Finnerty.

Heston Kjerstad went 3-of-5 on the evening and had four RBI along with scoring two runs. The Amarillo, Texas, product collected his fifth three-hit game of the year and eighth multi-hit game of the season.

On the mound, starting pitcher Isaiah Campbell fanned seven and walked one while scattering five hits without a run surrendered. The redshirt junior moves to 5-0 on the season, which matches his win total from 2018.

Nevertheless, Campbell believes he did not have his best of performances.

Said Campbell: “I didn’t have the best command tonight and had to rely on my cutter heavily. If I didn’t have that, it would have been a really tough outing. When you get run support like that, it just gets easier because you just have to go out and throw strikes and let the defense do the work.”

The Razorbacks return to action against Alabama Saturday for game two at Sewell-Thomas Stadium with a 2:00 p.m. first pitch. Pregame will be at 1:30 p.m. and can be heard on Fox Sports 1400 AM.
