Liberty-Eylau Band Members selected for Texas All-State in 2019.

Three members of the Liberty-Eylau High Band were selected to the ATSSB Texas 4A All-State Band.

They will be performing at the Texas Music Educators Association Convention in San Antonio, TX February 13-16th.

More than 10,000 High School Band students from across Texas auditioned in twenty-two different regions for a place in their respective All-Region bands. The top chairs in each region advanced to one of the five Area auditions held January 12th. These auditions took place across the state. In total, only 280 of these 2228 students were selected for All-State Honors.

The Liberty-Eylau Band members selected to the All-State Band this year included Jakari Holland. Jakari has been a Texas All State selection for four years on Tuba. The Director of Bands at Liberty-Eylau is Stephanie Nelson. She says Jakari is the first band member in Texarkana history to be selected All-State for four straight years.

Two-Year All-Stater Korey Broussard plays the Euphonium. He describes it as a little tuba.

Jonathan Urenda was selected all state for the first time in French Horn.

Jakari Holland is the son of Jonshay Reed. Korey Broussard is the son of Stephanie Broussard. Jonathan Urenda is the son of Cesar and Janette Urenda. They are members of the LEHS Marching and Symphonic Bands under the direction of Stephanie Nelson.

Jakari Holland will be presented with a 4-Year All-State award at the convention.

This will occur during the concerts. The concerts will be held at the Lila Cockrell Theater of the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center. It’s located in downtown San Antonio. This honor will occur on February 16th.

Dr. Cody Birdwell, University of Kentucky will be the clinician for the All-State Symphonic Band.

Nelson and her students credit hard work, dedication, and lots of practice time for their success.
