Oklahoma State rallies for 11-10 win over Texas

STILLWATER, Okla. – Texas took the lead in the top of the ninth but could not hold on, as Oklahoma State rallied for an 11-10 win in the series finale Saturday at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.

The Longhorns and Cowboys went back and forth for nearly four and a half hours, with six lead changes and four ties in the game.

Texas jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Zach Zubia hit a two run double to straight away center field. He drove in Austin Todd and Masen Hibbler with the big hit.

Oklahoma State got one run back in the bottom of the first on an unearned run off of starter Ty Madden because of an error to start the inning.

The Cowboys tied the game up 2-2 off of reliever Kamron Fields in the third inning. A leadoff walk came around to score after a double and a one-out error.

The Longhorns retook the lead in the fourth on an RBI single by Duke Ellis to drive in Lance Ford.

The lead was short-lived, as Oklahoma State knotted the game up 3-3 with a two-out RBI double to left field in the bottom of the fourth.

Texas got back in front with two runs in the sixth inning after loading the bases with nobody out. Back-to-back RBI groundouts by Eric Kennedy and Austin Todd made the Longhorn lead 5-3.

Oklahoma State scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take its first lead of the game, 9-5.

The Longhorns battled right back to tie the game up 9-9 with a four-run seventh inning. Tate Shaw hit a two-run homer to right field to cut the lead to two runs. Ford singled and Michael McCann walked to keep the inning alive.

Ellis followed with an RBI single to trim the lead to one run and a Kennedy sacrifice fly knotted the game up.

Texas grabbed a 10-9 lead in the ninth on a sacrifice fly by Todd to drive in Ellis. The Cowboys used three walks and a pair of hits to rally for the 11-10 win.

Texas heads to San Marcos to take on Texas State in a midweek game Tuesday at 6 p.m.
