S.A.U. in Magnolia had a big National Signing Day.
The university athletic website says the Southern Arkansas Muleriders signed 35 high school prospects and had a trio of transfers.
Out of that 35 high school signees, 25 played in the state of Texas.
On defense S.A.U. picked up 18 new recruits on that side of the ball. That included 11 defensive backs which does not include the three mid-year transfers that are also all secondary players. Additionally, SAU added four linebackers, and three defensive linemen.
On the offensive side of the ball, Southern Arkansas signed four new offensive linemen as well as a tight end to go along with five wide receivers, three running backs, three quarterbacks and an all-purpose athlete.
The Muleriders signed 5 high school players each from Arkansas and Louisiana.
Two Texas High Tiger standouts signed with Coach Bill Keopple’s team. Kendall Reid who played tight end for Texas High, and Wide Receiver Myles Washington both are going to Magnolia.
Southern Arkansas is coming off a 2018 campaign that saw them nationally ranked at one point. The Muleriders went 8-3 in the Great American Conference and played in the Live United Bowl game in Texarkana in December. They lost a heartbreaker to Western Missouri State.
Look for another great year for Keopple’s Muleriders this fall.
