Sulphur Springs rallies past THS boys; Lady Tigers still sharing top spot in district

Texas High’s girls rallied from an early 11-2 deficit Tuesday at the Tiger Center to beat Sulphur Springs, 67-58.

Later Tuesday night it was the Wildcats rallying twice from 11-point deficits to wrap up the top seed in district with a 69-60 victory over Texas High (25-8, 6-2). Sulphur Springs improved to 24-8 overall and 8-0 in league play.

The Lady Wildcats scored the game’s first seven points, and led 11-2 with 2:30 left in the first quarter. Texas High (24-7, 9-1) captured its first lead at 14-13 in the second quarter on a basket by Unique McBride.

The host team’s biggest lead was 13 points in the third quarter. Sulphur Springs (24-8, 7-3) stormed back behind the play of guard Sadavia Porter, who scored 19 of her 32 points in the third quarter. The Tigers led 49-46 going to the final eight minutes.

Senior Antonia Porter swished a 3-pointer to start the final quarter, and Kerrighan Dunn added another as the Tigers rebuilt a 13-point cushion with 4:41 left. Dunn finished with a team-high 23 points for THS, while Vicki Willis added 10.

Wildcats outscore THS 29-12 in fourth quarter

Sulphur Springs’ boys went on a 9-0 run in the first 90 seconds of the second half to cut the Tigers’ 11-point halftime advantage to two points. Texas High rebounded with a run of its own, leading 48-37 after a 3-pointer by Cole Drumm with 1:03 left in the third quarter.

Six-foot-9 Xavier Cork grabbed an offensive rebound and dunked to put the Wildcats on top 52-51 with 4:56 left in the game. The Tigers never led again, Sulphur Springs pulling away when THS starting fouling the final two minutes. Texas High was outscored 29-12 in the fourth quarter. Cork led all scorers with 26 points, while teammate Sadaidriene Hall contributing 19.

Guard Kyle Wright led the Tigers with 16 points. Drumm scored 12, while C.J. Kelley and Demarquis Vaughn added 11 each.

Lady Hawks complete perfect run in 15-4A

PARIS, Texas – Pleasant Grove (27-3, 8-0) completed a perfect run through District 15-4A Tuesday night by routing third-place Paris, 61-28.

Senior Shanequa Henry poured in 22 points for the Lady Hawks. Mayia Ware scored 13 for the winners, with Keshawn Davis adding 10.

Pleasant Grove’s junior varsity also completed a perfect record in district with a 36-28 win. Lucy Woodman led the Hawks with 7 points.

Paris’ boys remained perfect in district by defeating the Hawks, 73-64. Deaundre Robinson led Pleasant Grove with 12 points, while Kamren Woods scored 10.

Arkansas High splits with Sheridan

Arkansas High’s boys picked up their third conference win Tuesday at Razorback Gym over Sheridan, 50-44. Jadas Ross led the Razorbacks with 14 points, while Cameron Dorn contributed 12.

Diamond Morris poured in 30 points and grabbed 7 rebounds to lead Sheridan’s girls past the Lady Backs, 57-38. Staijah Taylor had 13 points and 7 rebounds for Arkansas High, with Kiara Young adding 7 points.

Ashdown boys dominate CenterPoint

AMITY, Ark. – Ashdown’s boys improved to 19-1 overall and 11-0 in 3A play Tuesday night by defeating CenterPoint (12-8, 8-3), 53-40.

John Smith led the Panthers with 15 points, while Kaiden Hunter added 11. Owen Bright had 20 points for the Knights.

Queen City boys win second straight

OMAHA-NAPLES, Texas – Tyler Nolan tallied 15 points Tuesday, and Queen City’s boys won their second straight district game over Paul Pewitt, 63-35. Tyler Walraven had 10 points for coach Billy Brewer’s Bulldogs.

Warriors outlast Ouachita in overtime

Jakob Martin poured in 20 points Tuesday night in leading Trinity Christian (13-16) past Ouachita in overtime, 42-38. The Warriors shut out Ouachita in the extra period, 4-0. Alex Cobb had 15 points for the winners, including three 3-pointers.

The Warriors travel to their district tournament next Monday in Kirby.

Lady Rabbs race past DeKalb

ATLANTA, Texas – Keyona Easter had a triple-double Tuesday night in leading Atlanta’s girls past DeKalb, 59-37. Easter had 25 points, 10 steals and 10 assists. Sheveionia Smith added 17 for the Lady Rabbs
